Fashion’s most recognizable handbags have sentimental stories behind them.
Grace Kelly
Grace Kelly — the American actor who married into the Monegasque royal family in 1956, thus becoming Princess Grace — was carrying her namesake Hermès bag long before they renamed it in her honor. She first carried what would later become the Kelly bag when on the set of Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch A Thief. (The director had permitted customer designer Edith Head to choose accessories from the storied French house). Following her royal wedding, and when expecting her first child, the princess used the bag to shield her growing bump from photographers. Yet, it wasn’t until 1977 that the bag was formerly christened as the Hermès Kelly.
