Pierre Casiraghi and Beatrice Borromeo are seen arriving at the Dior Grand Gala in Venice

Beatrice Borromeo made a trip back to her native Italy over the weekend to celebrate the opening of the Venice Biennale at Dior's Grand Gala. She was accompanied by her glamorous husband, Pierre Casiraghi, the grandson of Princess Grace of Monaco, for the occasion, which saw the couple dressed in matching Dior. Both of them have a relationship with the French fashion house: while she has long been associated with the brand as an ambassador, he recently became a model for Dior Homme.

Borromeo chose a stunning gothic-inspired floor-length black gown with visible underwear, while her husband opted for a dapper suit, chivalrously shielding his wife from the rain with an umbrella.

The ties between the House of Dior and the House of Grimaldi span generations, dating back to Hollywood star turned princess, Grace Kelly, who famously chose a white suit by the house when announcing her engagement to Prince Rainier III. She also supported its designer, Marc Bohan, on the opening of the first Dior Baby boutique, in Monaco, in 1967. Casiraghi’s mother, Princess Caroline, wore a dress by Bohan for her 1978 wedding to Philippe Junot, while her younger sister, Princess Stephanie, interned with the designer in the 1980s.

Borromeo descends from Italian aristocracy, with her family owning their namesake Borromeo islands, one of the locations that her wedding to Casiraghi took place. Before marrying into royalty, she was a hard-hitting journalist, famously clashing with fellow Italian, and pretender to the throne, the Prince of Venice, Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy.
